A lot of people take cherry supplement for the prevention of gout, but I'm taking this supplement for other reasons. Cherry is a source of anthocyanin, which is a type of flavonoid. They're the things that give red fruit their colour, and can be found in cherries, blueberries, red grape skins and the like. Flavenoids are an anti-oxidant which help fight free radicals in the body, thereby reducing cell damage. Free radicals are found in a greater concentration where air pollution is higher, and are generated when things are burned, such as fuel in cars and trucks. That's why I hold the opinion that a good antioxidant intake is important in modern society, even more so for anyone who lives or works in a city or large town. You can also produce free radicals them by blackening food, which is why I avoid burned toast and charred meat. In addition to acting as antioxidants and fighting free radicals, anthocyanins may offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer benefits. I'm not a doctor, so I suggest doing your own research to confirm all of this. One bottle of this product from Swanson provides 120 capsules, and at a suggested dose of four per day gives a one month supply. The current price is slightly higher than some competitors but the supplement seems to be good quality and is derived from natural fruit. The tablets are easy to swallow and have no side effects on me at all. I'm very happy with them.

They also ease symptoms of arthritis. These are also reported to have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial activity. The capsules are easy to swallow, contained in a gelatine capsule which is unsuitable for vegans.
