Fish oil is a rich source of omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, which include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are involved in the maintenance of many important structures and processes in our body, and vitamin D3, which plays an important role in the work of the immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids are incorporated into the structure of cell membranes and the nervous system. EPA and DHA acids influence the proper functioning of the heart through their positive effects on triglyceride levels, pulse, platelet aggregation and endothelial function[1]. DHA acids are the building blocks of the brain and retina, contributing to the maintenance of their proper functions. Vitamin D3, on the other hand, is produced by our body after exposure to sunlight and is also found in oily fish such as salmon, sardines and herring and egg yolks, but in our climate it is recommended that everyone supplement vitamin D3 all year round[5].
